The Lost Team: San Antonio Football Fans React To The Brahmas’ Exit
After years of building a loyal fanbase, Brahmas supporters say the UFL’s decision to pull the team feels like betrayal.
When the San Antonio Brahmas packed up and left town, it wasn’t just a football team that disappeared. It was a community’s game day traditions and tailgates, a hopeful symbol of ambitions for an NFL team — and for many, a promise that was broken.
For three seasons, San Antonio football fans gave the United Football League (UFL) and the Brahmas most of what the other teams around the league struggled to obtain: loyal fan support.
The crowds were steady, averaging around 8,000 fans, the atmosphere inside the Alamodome was electric, and the fans genuinely believed this time would be different. Now, as the team heads elsewhere, many supporters are left asking how a city that showed up in force could be left behind again.
In a statement, the UFL cited a lack of stadium options in the area as a reason for the departure.
“After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to depart from San Antonio. Unfortunately, the stadium options currently available do not align with our new vision,” the league said.
“As we look ahead to potential expansion in 2028, if the right venue becomes available in San Antonio, we look forward to bringing the Brahmas back home,” the statement continued.
