The Dallas Wings used a dominant first quarter to overwhelm the Seattle Storm, easily cruising to a 92-70 victory at College Park Center on Sunday afternoon.

Why it matters: Dallas improved to 22-16 on the season and is now one victory away from clinching their first playoff berth since 2023.

Driving the news: Paige Bueckers delivered one of her most efficient performances of the season, scoring 32 points on 12-of-16 shooting while going a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range.

What she's saying: The dominant performance came with Bueckers making no secret about what has been driving her and the Wings as they fight for a postseason spot.

“Losing sucks. I friggin hate losing,” Bueckers said.

That mentality showed Sunday, as Dallas jumped on Seattle from the opening tip and never trailed.

By the numbers: Dallas shot 50% from the field and 47.8% from beyond the arc, connecting on 11 of 23 three-point attempts. The Wings buried six threes in the opening quarter alone and shot 60% from the floor during the period.

How it happened: Dallas opened the game on an 11-0 run, fueled by two early Bueckers threes and another from Awak Kuier. Bueckers scored 18 points in the first quarter as the Wings built a commanding 34-17 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 35 points in the second quarter when Bueckers' fifth three made it 56-21. Seattle responded with a 14-0 run before halftime, but Dallas still carried a 56-35 advantage into the break.

Yes, but: Seattle briefly threatened to make things interesting in the second half. Back-to-back threes from Flau'jae Johnson cut Dallas' lead to 73-58 entering the fourth quarter.

The response: Dallas' reserves prevented the comeback from gaining momentum, stretching the lead back to 20 midway through the fourth. Alanna Smith's three-point play pushed the advantage to 84-63 and effectively shut the door.

The big picture: After beating Indiana 91-85 on Thursday, Dallas has now put together consecutive wins as it closes in on postseason qualification. Just as importantly, the Wings handled a struggling Seattle team the way a playoff contender should: taking control early and never trailing.

What's next: Dallas can clinch its first playoff appearance since 2023 with a victory Tuesday against the Portland Fire.
