JACKSONVILLE – San Antonio FC erased a three-goal halftime deficit to secure a point in a 4-4 draw against Sporting Club Jacksonville on Wednesday night, kicking off their month long road trip.

Why it matters: SAFC extended its unbeaten streak to six matches across all competitions.

  • While San Antonio earned a point, the game felt like a missed opportunity after it went down 3-0 at halftime.

The big picture: The match was a tale of two halves as Jacksonville dominated the opening 45 minutes, capitalizing on defensive mistakes by SAFC and scored on two penalty kicks.

A rally for the point: Dmitrii Erofeev began San Antonio's comeback in the 48th minute as he scored after Nelson Flores Blanco forced a turnover inside the penalty area.

  • Christian Sorto added a goal in the 51st minute with a beautiful shot that saw a curling strike off the top post and into the net.
  • Akeem O’Connor-Ward leveled the match in the 54th minute with a shot between two defenders that found its way past the goalkeeper.
  • Sorto delivered again in the 76th minute, scoring his second goal of the night, giving SAFC the lead.

Jacksonville put a stop to the run, scoring at the end of regulation to secure a point.

What they’re saying: Head coach Carlos Llamosa did not hide his frustration after the match.

  • “We’re disappointed because we wasted the first 45 minutes,” Llamosa said. “We didn’t play well. We gave up a lot of chances. I didn’t see the team that has been playing this year.”
  • Llamosa praised his squad for pushing hard after halftime but added that the club continuing to allow goals to close out the match remains an issue.
  • "Once again, last couple minutes of the game, we fall asleep," he said.

The bottom line: San Antonio FC showed the attacking firepower and resilience to erase a massive deficit, but defensive breakdowns at both ends of the pitch ultimately cost the club all three points.

Up next: San Antonio FC (5-1-6) will continue its road trip on June 6 in Tulsa to face FC Tulsa in the USL Cup.
